What to expect for during a visit from the mobile vet

1. Booking isn’t exact! Just like the cable guy, you will get an estimate of time that I will come. I try to keep on time as much as possible (usually within 1 hour); however, if a pet before you needs more time, I might run behind. Always know that it’s for a good reason, even if I can’t tell you exactly why.

2. Prepare a room! Have a place where we can take a look at your fur-baby together, where they can’t escape outside or into the garage where it might be difficult to catch them again. Keep their favorite things in the room – plenty of treats and toys!

3. Prepare a sample! I do recommend checking a fecal sample on healthy checks once a year or if there is an issue with diarrhea. Sometimes these samples are hard to get in the time that I’m at your home. If we have an issue with urination, then try to get a sample of pee a couple hours beforehand (a cheap kitchen ladle is your best friend). Poop samples can be placed into grocery bags or zip lock baggies; urine samples can be caught in clean glass/plasticware (not your mom’s Tupperware! She won’t forgive you!).

4. Do less! If your pet is being seen for a problem, DON’T clean the area before I come! I want to see the issue at it’s worst, which is a better representation of what’s going on. Don’t clean ears for infections; don’t shampoo for skin issues; and don’t give pain medicine for limping.

5. Find your previous records! Most vets can email them to you. That way we know exactly what little fluffy needs on this visit! No need to repeat vaccines that aren’t due yet. It’s also helpful to know what other medications were used for ongoing issues.

6. Be honest! Not every pet enjoys the vet; and I don’t expect every pet to be happy to see me. If your pet is anxious or has a history of aggression, let me know ASAP. We can do things beforehand to make everything as comfortable as possible. Aggression doesn’t always keep me from treating some conditions – however, if we are in danger of hurting ourselves or your pet, it might be better to have your pet seen in a clinic where they can fully sedate.

7. The paperwork is usually the worst part! Provide as much info as you can before the visit-Rabies certificates and medical histories require name/address/pet name/breed and all that official stuff. Copies of vaccines given and medical history will be emailed after the visit by the end of the day.

Payments will be accepted in the form of

cash, check, credit/debit or venmo

About Dr. Pruitt

I was born in East Ridge, lived a few years in Cleveland, then moved to Dandridge, then went to undergraduate college in Johnson City at ETSU. I moved back to Knoxville for veterinary school and have been in the Chattanooga area since 2014.

I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2013, and I have 10 years of experience working as a small animal veterinarian. My usual day was filled with appointments, surgeries, x-rays, ultrasounds, blood work, regular check up and sick patients.

My father was a CPA; and so I remember much of my childhood was built around "The Budget", including treatments at the veterinarian (although my mom did her best to cheat the system for me!) There has never been a day when I haven't had a small zoo to take care of - dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ducks, chickens, salamanders!

Most of us live on "The Budget" as this point and after I decided to start out on my own, I realized that I can't afford a shiny new building filled with a surgery suite and x-rays and ultrasounds and blood machines..... And then I realized that maybe you can't either!

My hope is keep my costs low so that I can make veterinary medicine more accessible. I look forward to reintroducing myself to one of my hometowns!
